Hello Miwok Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 School year at Miwok Valley! We are going to have another fantastic year. Here are some logistics and information on new programs this year for students and families:
-The Miwok Parking Lot Traffic Loop will begin Monday, August 21st. No Parking will be allowed along red fire lane zones or white curbs in the south parking lot during morning drop off and afternoon pick up times. You still may park along the curb on St. Francis. If you plan to use the traffic loop, please be sure you receive a DASHBOARD sign from the Miwok front office.
-TK-3rd Grade dismissal is now 2:40pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Dismissal for 4th-6th grade will remain 2:45pm on those days.
New for 2017-2018 is an expansion of our PE, Music, Computers, RTI, and Counseling programs. We are adding an additional PE teacher, an additional Counselor, and adding more time to Music to comprehensively support students in developing both a healthy body and brain. We are adding additional Computer Tech staff to support the programs we run in our Computer Lab and to provide more support with instructional technology within the classroom. Teachers are implementing a new and highly effective writing curriculum called The Write Tools and will be receiving significant training during the school year. Our EL Education work continues to expand as we align our Miwok Valley ELA Program to the new OAUSD ELA Framework. The development of the Family Resource Center at Miwok Valley continues as we add the Mentor Me program to our resources for students and families. Finally, we are transitioning away from the Rosetta Stone Language program. In our new Language Enrichment (LE) Program, students will use a combination of programs that are more developmentally appropriate for different ages.
We are looking forward to seeing you!
Dear Miwok Valley Families and Community,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! Before I talk about the current year, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on two years at Miwok Valley and be thankful for all the help and support you have given our school, and have given to me personally. I appreciate everything you do as a group and as individuals that have contributed to making Miwok Valley a great place to learn.
Miwok Valley made great progress during the past year in a number of areas; our EL Education focus, improving our facilities, improving our instruction, building community, and supporting students with special needs. It takes a large group with high capacity to make so much progress in so many areas- it also takes those few individuals who go above and beyond, working behind the scenes to make things great for everyone.
When students and teachers are engaged in work that is challenging, adventurous and meaningful, learning and achievement flourish. Our mission is to create classrooms where teachers can fulfill their highest aspirations, and students achieve more than they think possible, becoming active contributors to building a better world.
When students have completed their academic career and entered adult life, they’ll be judged not by performance on basic skills tests—but rather, by the quality of their work and the quality of their character. This premise serves as the foundation for EL Education’s overarching vision of increasing student engagement and elevating and expanding student achievement. To realize that vision, we focus on student excellence in three core areas:
The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a three-year plan for the upcoming school year and the two years that follow. An Annual Update is required for the LCAP, with a review of progress made for each stated goal in the current school year. The update assesses the effectiveness of actions and services provided, and describes the proposed strategic changes and priorities for the next three years of the plan. Each school site forms a team of Teachers, Classified Staff, and Parents to review the progress and goals. Please contact Brett Wilson, Principal of Miwok Valley Language Academy, if you would like more information on the LCAP process or are interested in participating.
Beginning Monday, August 21st, we will have a NEW Traffic Loop procedure for families. With this new procedure, we hope to speed up the process for families and students, increase safety for families, and reduce frustration during key times of the school day. Please do your best to cooperate with the new procedure and know that like anything new, it make take a few days for students, teachers, and families to get used to. We appreciate your support while we make improvements to our systems that help kids!
