Miwok Valley Language Academy is an EL Education Partner, with an experiential learning focus in our instruction and learning. Experiential learning encourages metacognition, or thinking about learning. It also emphasizes depth over breadth in the study of a topic, and requires combining skills from different subjects. Teachers and students can be more creative and artistic in their teaching and learning in order to create projects that have an authentic process and audience. This new direction is challenging, exciting and motivating for Miwok teachers, students and families.

Toolbox is a K-6 curriculum that supports children in understanding and managing their own emotional, social and academic success. Children learn 12 simple yet powerful Tools. With practice these tools become valuable personal skills: self-awareness, self-management and relationship skills; these in turn foster responsible decision-making. Because the techniques are simple and the language is shared, children adopt the tools and master them quickly. Watch the video here: What is the Toolbox Program?
The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a three-year plan for the upcoming school year and the two years that follow. An Annual Update is required for the LCAP, with a review of progress made for each stated goal in the current school year. The update assesses the effectiveness of actions and services provided, and describes the proposed strategic changes and priorities for the next three years of the plan. Each school site forms a team of Teachers, Classified Staff, and Parents to review the progress and goals. Please contact Brett Wilson, Principal of Miwok Valley Language Academy, if you would like more information on the LCAP process or are interested in participating.
